Previously Added Work

The Year 1 team have created a pack of resources to enable the children to practise key skills and learning objectives at home for English, maths and the wider curriculum. These learning opportunities can be completed in any order. A yellow book will be sent home for the work to be completed in. There is no expectation to print anything in order to complete the tasks.

English:

We have provided a range of activities that will ensure your child practises their writing, phonics, spelling, grammar and comprehension skills during their time at home.

Expected ingredients for Year 1 children to include in their writing are:

  • A range of punctuation: full stops, capital letters, question marks and exclamation marks.
  • Adventurous adjectives (eg: enormous, fabulous, colourful, terrifying…)
  • Powerful verbs (eg: dash, wobble, tiptoe, creep…)
  • Sentence openers (First, Then, Next, Lastly, One morning, Later that day, In the middle of the night…)
  • Conjunctions (eg: and, because)
  • Clear handwriting (clearly formed letters, placed in the correct place in relation to the line)
  •

English Work:

  • Write a letter to a friend or their class teacher.
  • Write diary entries for their days away from school.
  • Write a non-chronological report, about your favourite animal, a sport or a famous inventor.
  •

Reading: Please continue to support your child with at least 10 minutes of reading out loud each day.

Maths Work:

  • Maths mats: These sheets cover the learning objectives taught so far in class and will also aid the revision and recall of number bonds.
  • Maths tests: Your child can also practise maths tests, with the answer sheets provided for parents/carers.
  • Numberbonds: Please continue to practise numberbonds to 10 and 20.
  •
